beach regulations
Rules and Regulations Overview:
The City has recently made some amendments to the Rules and Regulations concerning beach activities and use. Some of the more notable changes address the following:
· Tents: tents, sunshades or similar structures must be removed daily from the beach. Additionally, they must not exceed 8’x8 in size. Please do not place them closer than 50 feet to the shoreline in order to maintain a travel lane for emergency vehicles. Keep in mind that some condominium associations may prohibit tents, entirely. · Glass containers: for safety’s sake, all glass containers are now strictly prohibited on beach areas. · Digging Holes: some folks feel compelled to dig very large (not your typical plastic shovel and bucket type “kiddie” hole) on the beach, creating a hazard to nighttime beach walkers and joggers, sea turtles trying to nest, and emergency vehicles. “Excessive digging” is prohibited by city ordinance. If you encounter a large, open hole, please help us by filling it with sand! · Pets: Pets remain prohibited on the beach. · Dune Protection: Healthy sand dunes provide both valuable protection to upland structures as well as vital habitat to numerous species; for this reason, it is very important to eliminate foot and vehicular traffic in the vegetated dunes. Enjoy the beach, but please Keep Off Thee Dunes! To cross the dunes and access the beach, please us dune "walkovers" (boardwalks) or designated walking paths through the dune field
